Bold, sculptural, and full of emotion. I love combining classic beauty with creative, avant-garde shapes — especially working with wigs and texture.

Veronika Shurunova

What country are you from, and where do you reside?
I’m originally from Kazakhstan, and now I live in New York City, USA.

Title of what you do, and if you are aligned with a brand or company:
I’m a hairstylist and wig artist. I work independently and collaborate with creative teams, as well as with photographers and fashion shows.

Education background (school, salons, self-taught)?
I studied hairstyling in Kazakhstan, trained in top salons, and continued learning on my own. A great deal of what I know has come from practice, hard work, and passion.

What is the first creative project that you remember?
It was a fantasy hairstyle made from natural hair and wire — I created a full sculpture on the head. That’s when I realized I could build anything from hair.

What is your signature style/artistic expression of your work?
Bold, sculptural, and full of emotion. I love combining classic beauty with creative, avant-garde shapes — especially working with wigs and texture.

What is the most fulfilling job you’ve worked on or someone you have worked with?
Making 12 wigs for New York Fashion Week was a dream. Seeing my work walk the runway and surprise the audience was an unforgettable experience.

Do you have a career turning point, a big break, or a person who has helped your career?
Moving to America was a turning point for me. I left everything behind and started from zero — it was scary, but it gave me strength. I also thank my teachers and mentors who pushed me forward.

What was the scariest and proudest moment in your career?
The scariest was arriving in the U.S. without knowing anyone and not speaking the language. The proudest? Winning awards in a new country and being recognized on big stages.

What is next for your career goals?
I want to work in film, fashion campaigns, and collaborate with luxury brands. I’m also planning to share my knowledge through masterclasses and inspire other artists.

What advice would you give to someone starting in your business?
Believe in yourself. Don’t wait for someone to give you a chance — create your own. Keep learning, stay brave, and let your style speak for you.
