From this time to now, I have developed a much deeper passion for the industry. I have endeavoured to become a role model and set industry standards for stylists to aspire to.

Sharon Blain

Global Educator for Sharon Blain Education

Born in Australia and living in Sydney.

I’m a freelance educator and do not align with any brand. However, I work with various product companies when touring and delivering education. It’s great to work with different product companies to expand my knowledge of the different products available in the marketplace.

I did a four-year apprenticeship in a hairdressing salon, but am self-taught. I did not graduate from any training colleges. I have continued to be involved in career development throughout my 49 years as a stylist, namely Vidal Sassoon, Toni and Guy, etc

My first creative project, I remember, was competing in various hair competitions. I have won hundreds of awards in various categories, including cutting, avant-garde, and styling. I also trained my salon team to win the Australian Salon Team of the Year on many occasions.

Due to my competitive success, I represented Australia on three separate occasions internationally and coached the Australian team in the World Championship in Japan in the late nineties. I continued competing in national and international live awards for around ten years before becoming obsessed with creating photography collections. I swapped from the live awards to photography awards and continue to enter and challenge myself creatively today.

My signature style is particularly in the realm of long hair and intricate updos. I’m recognized for my creativity and detailed work, incorporating braids, twists, and unique textures in hairstyles. My hair skills cover an extensive range of old-school techniques, from avant-garde editorial to wedding hair.

The most fulfilling part of the job is education and mentoring in the hair industry. I love training apprentices and watching them go on to be successful operators. Hairdressing has given me experiences I will always be extremely grateful for. I love seeing my hair creations in print, on the big screen, on the runway, in posters for product launches, or on a favourite client or celebrity. Our craft has no boundaries.

“I continue to enter awards (and win!) to prove age is just a number. I would say I’m as excited about doing hair today as I was the day I started hairdressing.”
