“I love the avant-garde world, but I am known for creating wave and texture work in the publishing world, which is the area where I have the most demand in my training and shows.” – Rafael Bueno Ruiz
Rafael Bueno Peluqueros
What country are you from, and where do you reside?
I am from Spain and I live in Malaga
Title of what you do, and if you are aligned with a brand or company.
I work as a hairdresser in my salon, and I also do training, events and shows as an Ambassador for Revlon Professional.
Education background (school, salons, self-taught)?
I studied hairdressing and styling at a hairdressing academy in Malaga, then I worked for 7 years in my aunt’s salon, and in 2004 I founded my own brand, Rafael Bueno Hairdressers.
What is the first creative project that you remember?
Throughout my career, I have created many hairdressing collections, but one of the most important was in 2016 when I created TEXTURES DREAMS, where I won the Revlon Professional Style Masters in Brussels, where I was proclaimed as one of the best hairdressers in the world.
What is your signature style/artistic expression of your work?
I love the avant-garde world, but I am known for creating wave and texture work in the publishing world, which is the area where I have the most demand in my training and shows.
What is the most fulfilling job you’ve worked on or someone you have worked with?
I have had many satisfying jobs, but being able to work and share stages and collections with a great master and role model like Manuel Mon with our Wakanda and Kabuki collections has been one of the most beautiful things I can tell you.
Do you have a career turning point, a big break, or a person who has helped your career?
My aunt was my first teacher; she introduced me to this world and helped a lot in my training to become a great hairdresser.
What was the scariest and proudest moment in your career?
Well, I think opening my own salon where I can demonstrate and develop my work is one of the most beautiful moments a professional can experience.
What is next for your career goals?
I have just completed two new collections, and I am shortlisted for Spanish Hairdresser of the Year at the Figaro Awards, where I have submitted my application.
What advice would you give to someone starting in your business?
Do what you love, put in a lot of effort and passion, and always have continuous training because training is the key to success.
