MANIFESTE Magazine: Montreal’s New Avant-Garde Print Title
By Cheryl Gushue
MANIFESTE magazine is a new avant-garde print magazine from Montreal, founded by photographer and art director Sébastien Jurkovic. It sits at the intersection of fashion, art, and beauty. The first issue launches in November 2026 with a limited print run and selective distribution. It is built for the people who make images.
What is MANIFESTE magazine?
Jurkovic calls it a love letter to the avant-garde and to photographic creation. The brief is three words: raw, visual, essential.
The format is deliberate. Each issue is conceived as a rare editorial object. That means a limited print run, cutting-edge art direction, and refined aesthetics. Photographers and artists are invited to take fashion and beauty codes apart and rewrite them.
The launch statement ends with a line that sets the tone for everything inside: “MANIFESTE does not seek to please. It imposes a vision.”
Who is Sébastien Jurkovic, the founder of MANIFESTE?
Sébastien Jurkovic is a Montreal photographer, art director, and visual artist. He is the Founder and Creative Lead of MANIFESTE.
He was born in Paris and moved to Canada at thirteen. He earned a BFA in visual arts. He then spent ten years as an advertising art director for brands including L’Oréal, Wonderbra, and Shan. He left advertising to shoot full time. He is self-taught behind the camera.
His fashion and beauty photography has appeared in Numéro, V Magazine, L’Officiel, and Cable Magazine UK. Commercial clients include Moose Knuckles, Noize Apparel, Projek Raw, and Public Beach.
Beauty Hub readers first met him in our photographer interview. He told us: “Photography should evoke a dream world and not the banality of everyday life.” MANIFESTE is that philosophy in print.
MANIFESTE magazine takes a stand against lifeless imagery
The launch statement names its target clearly. It pushes back against a content machine that confuses visibility with value. It rejects imagery that standardizes, smooths out, and removes every rough edge.
In its place, MANIFESTE chooses the raw, the strange, the beautiful, and the unruly. Its rallying line: “To create is and always will be to resist.”
Why does MANIFESTE matter to beauty professionals?
Print credits carry lasting weight
A printed editorial credit is permanent. It lives on a shelf, in a portfolio, and in a pitch to agencies. A limited run makes each copy collectible. Every credited makeup artist and hairstylist on the team shares that value.
Avant-garde beauty work needs a home
Sculptural hair. Graphic liner. Bare, textured skin. Conceptual makeup. This is work that rewards risk, and MANIFESTE is built around risk.
Art direction leads the MANIFESTE vision
Jurkovic comes from a decade of advertising art direction. Expect a title where concept, styling, and image work as one. Beauty teams who bring ideas to the concept stage will thrive here.
The Beauty Hub Magazine’s take on MANIFESTE magazine
Independent print offers what a feed cannot: time, texture, and permanence. I spent years leading a print beauty publication. I know what it takes to put a title on paper. A founder with Jurkovic’s eye and art direction background gives MANIFESTE a strong start. We will be watching the first issue closely.
